Clearing a home with the person, not around them

Clearing a parent’s or relative’s home is rarely just a job. Decades of belongings carry memories, and decisions are easier when they are made calmly, one room at a time. We help families do this without anyone feeling rushed.

  • Room by room

Everything is sorted into keep, sell, donate and let go, at the person’s pace and item by item.

  • Sentimental items first

Photographs, letters and family pieces are set aside to decide on properly, never swept up in a bulk clear-out.

  • Packed and labelled

What is staying with the person is packed by room, with medication and important papers kept accessible.

  • An insured removal

Moved by DBS-checked staff and insured against loss or damage in transit, with the cover set out in your service agreement.

What is included depends on the package. Declutter support starts with Silver Comfort. Sorting is always done with the owner’s agreement, or with the family or attorney where the person cannot decide for themselves.

What we do and do not do

Sorting and moving, not skips

House-clearance firm

Empties a property, usually quickly and for a fee based on volume, for sale, probate or a landlord. Little or no sorting with the owner.

Chayce

Helps an older person or their family decide what to keep, sell, donate or let go, then packs and moves what is staying. Nothing goes without agreement. We do not empty a property for disposal.

If you need both

Some families use us for the sorting and the move, then a separate, reputable local clearance firm for whatever is left. We are happy to work around that.

Always their decision

Nothing goes without agreement.

We never rush sentimental items, and your family can be involved as much or as little as you like.

House Clearance Help for the Elderly: Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer house clearance for the elderly?

We help sort, declutter, pack and move an older person’s belongings, with their agreement. We are not a house clearance firm, so we do not empty a property for disposal or take it on at a fixed price per load.

How do I clear an elderly parent’s house?

Work room by room, starting with the least emotional rooms, and sort into keep, sell, donate and let go. Set aside photographs and papers to go through later. Start three to six months ahead if you can. Chayce can do this alongside you.

How much does house clearance for an elderly person cost?

Prices vary with the size of the property and how much it holds, and clearance firms usually quote by volume, so get at least two or three written quotes. Chayce does not clear properties for disposal, so we do not quote for it, but our sorting, packing and moving help starts at £995.

How much does it cost?

Packing and an insured removal start at £995 with Bronze Essentials. Declutter support starts with Silver Comfort at £1,850. A Discovery Consultation costs £150. The final cost depends on the size of the home and the help you need.

Can you help if my parent cannot decide for themselves?

Where a person lacks capacity, decisions are for their attorney or the family member legally entitled to act. We work with them and never sort or dispose of belongings without that agreement. Our guide to Lasting Power of Attorney and moving a parent explains the basics.

What happens to items they do not want?

You decide: keep, sell, donate or let go. We do not take bulk items away for disposal, but we can help you plan donation and recycling, and you can use a local clearance firm for whatever remains.

Can you help after a death?

We help with sorting, packing and moving belongings, and with moving a surviving partner or relative. We are not a probate or legal service. See our page on probate and moving help.

Is the removal insured?

Yes. Every Chayce removal is fully insured against loss or damage in transit, and the cover is set out in your service agreement before the move begins.

Do you work outside Northampton?

Yes. We are based in Northampton and arrange moves across the whole UK.
