Short answer: a moving consultation is a planning session you have before you move. You talk through your situation, and you leave with a written plan, a recommended timeline and a budget. It suits anyone who is moving, or helping a family member move, and is not sure what support they need. At Chayce Properties it is called the Discovery Consultation: one hour, in person or by phone, £150.
Why have a consultation first
A later-life move has many moving parts: sorting and downsizing, packing, the removal itself, the sale and purchase, and settling in. Guessing the scope from a room count often means paying for the wrong level of help. A consultation looks at what your move actually involves, so the support you choose fits the real job. If you are still deciding whether to move at all, it is a way to explore your options without committing to anything.
What happens in the consultation
The Chayce Discovery Consultation has two parts:
- Understanding your situation. We talk through your current home, your timeline, your family circumstances and what is actually driving the move.
- Walking through your options. We assess which level of support genuinely fits, from a straightforward packing-and-removal approach through to full concierge-level support, and explain why.
What you take away
You leave with three things in writing, not a verbal estimate:
- A personalised move plan covering what needs to happen and when.
- A recommended timeline.
- A budget breakdown, so you know what to expect before you commit.
How to prepare
You do not need everything sorted. A few notes make the hour more useful:
- Your dates. Any dates you already have, such as a sale agreed, a completion date, a care home place or a tenancy ending. If you have none yet, say so.
- Where you are moving to, or the kind of home you are considering, such as a bungalow, retirement flat or care home.
- Who is involved. Family members, your estate agent and your solicitor. Our guide to who can help an older person move lists the people to think about.
- Your worries. Stairs, sentimental items, health, a tight budget or a short timescale. Naming them early shapes the plan.
- A rough idea of the home. How many rooms, how much is in the loft, garage or shed, and what you already know you will keep. Our downsizing checklist can help.
Is it right for you
A consultation helps if you are unsure which level of support you need, or are moving a parent and want a clear plan to share with the family. If you already know your destination and only need packing and removals, you can go straight to Bronze Essentials instead.
