What drives the cost up or down
- Size of the home and volume of belongings. More to move means more crew time and vehicle space.
- Distance between the two properties.
- Sorting and decluttering. Fewer items to move usually means a smaller job, but the sorting itself takes time and support.
- Packing and unpacking. Having it done for you adds cost but removes the most tiring part for an older person.
- Access. Stairs, lifts, parking restrictions and narrow roads at either end.
- Extras. Storage, deep cleaning, furniture reassembly and staging a house for sale.
- Coordination. Liaising with estate agents and solicitors, and the possibility that completion dates shift.
How to compare quotes fairly
A cheap quote and a full-service quote are often different products. Ask every company:
- Are packing materials and packing labour included?
- What insurance covers my belongings in transit, and is it in writing?
- Is the price fixed, and what could change it on the day?
- Is reassembly, cleaning or unpacking included?
- Are there charges for stairs, parking or waiting time?
- Who is my single contact, and what happens if the date moves?
